Complete results are here June 6, 2005 CARL OLSON MEMORIAL RUN DRAWS CROWD Chassell -- Saturday's Carl Olson Memorial Adventure Run drew a good crowd, despite competing with the UP High School Track Championships. A near-record 84 runners turned out for a tour of the Chassell cross-country ski trails. The run includes men's and women's competition in 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer distances. In the 5-kilometer, Michigan Tech All-American skier Kristina Owen won the race, overall, in a time of 20:44. Owen also holds Tech's school record in the 5,000 meter track event. Her track teammates, Tara Hansen and Kate Hagenbuch, finshed second and in the women's 5-k race. For the men, Houghton High School runner Brian Alkire took first place, in a time of 21:05. Greg Olson was second and Joe Caron third. Another Michigan Tech record-holder took first in the 10-kilometer race. Karl Walczak, who holds the school record in the 10,000 meter run and was a top cross-country skier for the Huskies, took first in 35:01. Dan Dehlin and Andy Liebner, both of Marquette, finished second and third. For the women, Hancock's Joan Rundman was first in a time of 42:58. Wendy Sharp of Liminga was second, and Michigan Tech grad student Margot Hutchins was third. The Carl Olson Memorial Adventure Run is organized by the Copper Country Ski Tigers Nordic racing team and Chassell Recreation. Full results are here. |
